Krugerhouse Lodge

As the name suggests, this lodge is a renovation of an actual old outpost used by President Paul Kruger who
stayed here for a while before and during the Anglo Boer war. Since then, it fell into different hands,
among others his son, then it was abandoned for many years after which wood cutters then occupied it.
The original old Oregon wooden floor still carries the testimony hereof in silent expression.

The cost of Slackpacking on Erosion

The Cannibal Hiking trail is truly starring a unrepairable problem at the moment, as seen from the photos. The erosion is primarily caused by heavy rainfall during the years but also due to the slackpacking option they offer for
hikers. Repairs to the road has come to such an extent that the rate charged for the slackpacking is not covering the repair work.

What is Erosion?
In earth science, erosion is the action of surface processes (such as water flow or wind) that removes soil, rock, or dissolved material from one location on the Earth’s crust, and then transports it to another location. Erosion is distinct from weathering which involves no movement. Removal of rock or soil as clastic sediment is referred to as physical or mechanical erosion; this contrasts with chemical erosion, where soil or rock material is removed from an area by dissolution. Eroded sediment or solutes may be transported just a few millimetres, or for thousands of kilometres.

Veld Fires

We look at veld fires in general and what impact it has on our eco system.

SOUTH AFRICA HAS TWO FIRE SEASONS ACCORDING TO RAINFALL PATTERNS, THE DRY SUMMER MONTHS IN THE WESTERN CAPE, AND THE DRY WINTER MONTHS IN THE REST OF THE COUNTRY.
Often wildland fires are started by lightning or, in mountainous regions, by falling rocks.  Most, however, are started by accident by people being careless with open flames and indifferent to the consequences of their carelessness.
